Description
A devastating leg lock that attacks the knee by controlling the heel and rotating, tearing the ACL, MCL, and meniscus.
History
While banned in most gi competition and at lower no-gi levels, the heel hook became the most feared submission in professional no-gi grappling. John Danaher's 'Death Squad' revolutionized leg lock systems, making heel hooks their primary weapon.
Technique Notes
Control opponent's leg in ashi garami or saddle position. Cup heel with hand, fingers toward you. Hide wrist under their heel. Rotate by falling toward pinky side while lifting elbow and keeping tight grip.
