Description

A shoulder lock similar to the Kimura but rotating the arm in the opposite direction, toward the mat.

History

The Americana is one of the first submissions taught to beginners due to its accessibility from mount and side control. It's called 'Americana' because it was popularized in the Americas.

Technique Notes

From mount or side control, pin opponent's wrist to mat with one hand. Thread other arm under their elbow to grip your own wrist. Keep their elbow pinned to your chest. Slide wrist toward their hip while keeping elbow in place.
