Choke

North-South Choke

Also known as: Paper Cutter from NS

Intermediate Difficulty
#25 Popularity

Description

A choke applied from the north-south position by threading the arm under the opponent's neck and using chest pressure.

History

While north-south has always been a dominant control position, the north-south choke became popularized by Marcelo Garcia in the 2000s. It remains one of the tightest chokes when properly applied.

Technique Notes

From north-south, thread near arm under opponent's neck. Walk hips toward choking arm side. Place chest on face and sprawl while pulling elbow to hip. The pressure comes from body weight, not arm strength.
